Summary

The fiercely-anticipated sequel to the Sunday Times bestseller Once Upon a Broken Heart, starring Evangeline Fox and the Prince of Hearts on a new journey of magic, mystery, and heartbreak。

Not every love is meant to be。

After Jacks, the Prince of Hearts, betrays her, Evangeline Fox swears she'll never trust him again。 Now that she’s discovered her own magic, Evangeline believes she can use it to restore the chance at happily ever after that Jacks stole away。

But when a new terrifying curse is revealed, Evangeline finds herself entering into a tenuous partnership with the Prince of Hearts again。 Only this time, the rules have changed。 Jacks isn’t the only force Evangeline needs to be wary of。 In fact, he might be the only one she can trust, despite her desire to despise him。

Instead of a love spell wreaking havoc on Evangeline’s life, a murderous spell has been cast。 To break it, Evangeline and Jacks will have to do battle with old friends, new foes, and a magic that plays with heads and hearts。 Evangeline has always trusted her heart, but this time she’s not sure she can。 。 。 。

I adored the first book and this book room all the magic and adventure and excitement of the first book and built upon it。 I love our main characters so much and my heart is so invested。 The ending was terrifying and yet also satisfying and I will never tire of reading anything Stephanie writes。 I won’t say more because I don’t want to spoil anything but read this and then read it all again because it’s that good。 My words are not enough to do it justice

[Really liked it]I really enjoyed this follow up book from Once Upon a Broken Heart。 The narration was excellent but I wish I would have read the physical book。 The story was a little hard to keep track on audio。 The characters were just as interesting as book one of this series。 I definitely plan on re-reading this one。 The epilogue was 🤯Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a free advanced copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review。

DAMN YOU STEPHANIE!! This book just came out today and I've already finished it and in need of the new one!!!! Ugh, and it was even better than the first one, the tension was *chef's kiss* and I was kept on my toes the whole time。So yeah, Ms。 Garber, I feel a deep hate for you at the moment, but also I love you and thank you for finally giving this to us! 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Please take in mind it’s my opinion, and everyone is allowed to have one。To say I was scared to read this was an understatement。。 I literally feared it would disappoint me BUT BOYYYY I was wrong。 This book had so much plot twists and angst。 My emotions were all over the place。 Everything would make sense when you’ve read this, everything will fall in place。 I loved Evangeline as a character she was so incredible, bad ass even though she wore her heart on her sleeve。 And than Ja 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Please take in mind it’s my opinion, and everyone is allowed to have one。To say I was scared to read this was an understatement。。 I literally feared it would disappoint me BUT BOYYYY I was wrong。 This book had so much plot twists and angst。 My emotions were all over the place。 Everything would make sense when you’ve read this, everything will fall in place。 I loved Evangeline as a character she was so incredible, bad ass even though she wore her heart on her sleeve。 And than Jacks, he can do no wrong。。 I’m sorry he’s my weakness。 I loved the tension between those the pull and push? Anxiously Awaiitng a Happy EndingI have loved every book Stephanie Garber has written, but I loved this one the most。 Like Jacks, this book was absolutely heartbreaking。 It is a perfect blend of fairy tale and tragedy。 My favorite part of this book was the background we received for many of the Fates in this book。 It made their characters so much more genuine and understandable。 I honestly cannot wait for the next installment in this series so excuse me while I spiral into hysterics while I awai Anxiously Awaiitng a Happy EndingI have loved every book Stephanie Garber has written, but I loved this one the most。 Like Jacks, this book was absolutely heartbreaking。 It is a perfect blend of fairy tale and tragedy。 My favorite part of this book was the background we received for many of the Fates in this book。 It made their characters so much more genuine and understandable。 I honestly cannot wait for the next installment in this series so excuse me while I spiral into hysterics while I await Stephanie Garber putting me out of my misery by publishing the next book。 。。。more

One of the best reads of this year! I absolutely loved the story, it twisted and turned and kept me guessing all along。 If this turns into a series, it’ll hands-down be one of my favourite YA fantasy series ever。 If it’s still a duology then I’ll have really enjoyed it - but that ENDING!My only complaints are that sometimes the pacing is too fast - I wanted som space to breathe in the story at times。 And occasionally Evangeline is too dumb - but she’s a YA protagonist, we expected this。I read th One of the best reads of this year! I was hooked from the start, a real 5/5 for me。 ***spoilers***The ending has me spiralling!! I HAVE to know what happens and the idea this might only be a duology kills me。 Is Apollo evil?? Who helped him to remove Evangeline’s memories?? Is Evangeline really Jacks’ true love? Are the rest of the Valor going to be let out? What happens to the Protectorate?? I need to know!! I guess I’ll have to sit on this all for a while until we see if there are going to be any more in the series。 。。。more

Stephanie Garber ripped out my heart and ate it for breakfast。 There is not a fibre in my body that doesn’t ache。 The dread, anticipation, and climax, all make for a fantastic story。 I felt happy to be as lost as Evangeline on her journey, and honestly whilst some plot points felt similar to Once Upon A Broken Heart, the situation and anticipation all felt even greater in terms of stakes and pay-off。 It always gives you just enough to keep wanting more and I am not sure I can wait until the next Stephanie Garber ripped out my heart and ate it for breakfast。 There is not a fibre in my body that doesn’t ache。 The dread, anticipation, and climax, all make for a fantastic story。 I felt happy to be as lost as Evangeline on her journey, and honestly whilst some plot points felt similar to Once Upon A Broken Heart, the situation and anticipation all felt even greater in terms of stakes and pay-off。 It always gives you just enough to keep wanting more and I am not sure I can wait until the next one is released。I adore Evangeline。 Similar female protagonists in the Fantasy/Romance/YA genre can play so innocent that its painful to read but Evangeline is written so well I enjoy and empathise with all she does。 Jacks。 Need I say more? All the side characters are built well enough, too, overall crafting a fantastic story that I am sure to reread many times over and cry cry cry。 999/10。 Always will recommend。 Stephanie I hope you’re happy breaking thousands of peoples hearts but thank you it is superb。 。。。more

I didn't particularly love the prequel, Once Upon a Broken Heart。 But I'm a sucker for an intriguing storyline and cliffhangers with the promise of more。 The Ballad of Never After has a deeper more intrinsic plot and the writing - which was a main criticism of mine with OUBH - feels much less juvenile, especially during the second half。 It did get messy at times trying to untangle the multitude of characters with second identities which felt unnecessary if not mysterious。 And the tragedy of the I didn't particularly love the prequel, Once Upon a Broken Heart。 But I'm a sucker for an intriguing storyline and cliffhangers with the promise of more。 The Ballad of Never After has a deeper more intrinsic plot and the writing - which was a main criticism of mine with OUBH - feels much less juvenile, especially during the second half。 It did get messy at times trying to untangle the multitude of characters with second identities which felt unnecessary if not mysterious。 And the tragedy of the main romance is an absolute heart-wrenching delight to those who, like myself, can't turn away and simultaneously beg for more。 I will say I do regret finding this series while still in its infancy; I want to both applaud and strangle the ending, Stephanie。 Sigh。 Until next year (fingers crossed)。 。。。more

It was wonderful, really, I enjoyed it。 But I REALLY need book 3 or I might spontaneously combust and I actually would rather that not happen。 I think there were a few instances of plot convenience, and Apollo at the end was。。。 well uh off。 But book 3 should be fun, considering it's up to Jacks to fix things now。 Of course, that means I need it asap。 A few thoughts:- I knew Luc was Lucien and maybe I read far too much or it was simply painfully obvious- Jacks very clearly likes Evangeline, it wa It was wonderful, really, I enjoyed it。 But I REALLY need book 3 or I might spontaneously combust and I actually would rather that not happen。 I think there were a few instances of plot convenience, and Apollo at the end was。。。 well uh off。 But book 3 should be fun, considering it's up to Jacks to fix things now。 Of course, that means I need it asap。 A few thoughts:- I knew Luc was Lucien and maybe I read far too much or it was simply painfully obvious- Jacks very clearly likes Evangeline, it was clear all throughout the book- I knew that the book would revolve around The Ballad of the Archer and the Fox, not only because of the title but considering Evangeline's last name is literally 'Fox' (huh, a little on the nose, wasn't it?) and that meant I immediately thought Apollo was the Archer in a way (the letter A) but then where does Jacks come into it? Then I guessed he was the OG Archer, and voila, I was right。 On that note, of someone says it's a YA book, for children, of course it's on the nose, and 'you're not the target audience' funnily enough, I'm exactly the target audience, and overly hinting at anything at all is irritating。 But I had fun reading it all through Period 2 Math and Period 3 Physics。 One thing's for sure, I enjoyed it more than Caraval, even if the characters were annoying at times。 Would I recommend it? Sure。 But reading it in one shot would probably be more enjoyable。 。。。more
